Cyprus: A Geographical Overview

Location and Topography

Cyprus, an island nation located in the eastern Mediterranean Sea, is the third largest and third most populous island in the Mediterranean region. It lies south of Turkey, north of Egypt, east of Greece, and west of Lebanon. The island is known for its diverse topography, featuring rugged mountains, fertile plains, and picturesque coastlines.

Major Cities and Features

Nicosia, the capital and largest city of Cyprus, is a bustling metropolis located in the heart of the island. Other major cities include Limassol, Larnaca, and Paphos, which are important commercial and tourist hubs. Cyprus is also home to several national parks, including Troodos National Forest Park and Akamas Peninsula National Park, which offer stunning natural beauty and opportunities for outdoor recreation.

International Borders and Neighboring Countries

As an island, Cyprus has no neighboring countries. It is surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea and has an international border with the British Overseas Territory of Akrotiri and Dhekelia, which is located on the southern coast of Cyprus.

District Boundaries and Infrastructure

Cyprus is divided into six administrative districts: Nicosia, Limassol, Larnaca, Paphos, Famagusta, and Kyrenia. Each district has its own capital city and a network of major roads and highways connecting towns and villages. The island also has two international airports, Larnaca International Airport and Paphos International Airport, which provide access to major cities worldwide.
