Giorgos Giakoumakis Leaves Celtic to Sign for Atlanta United
Former Celtic Striker Departs After 18 Months
Giakoumakis Was Last Season's Top Scorer
Celtic Football Club have confirmed that striker Giorgos Giakoumakis has joined Major League Soccer side Atlanta United. The Greek international has signed a three-year deal with the Five Stripes, ending his 18-month spell with Celtic.
Giakoumakis joined Celtic from Dutch side VVV-Venlo in August 2021 and quickly became a fan favorite. He scored 26 goals in 56 appearances for the Hoops, including the winner in the Scottish Premiership title-clinching match against Dundee United in May. However, he has fallen down the pecking order this season following the arrival of Kyogo Furuhashi and Daizen Maeda.
Giakoumakis is a natural goalscorer with a great eye for goal. He is also a good header of the ball and is strong in the air. He will be a valuable addition to the Atlanta United squad and will be expected to play a key role in their quest for MLS glory.
